Interaction Choice: Interaction: Change the “daily steps goal” for the pedometer to 10,000 steps. (Default setting: 5,000 steps)
- The daily goal can be edited in the settings menu using finger or swipe gestures.
Description of the Interaction (What functions and content are addressed?): Setting the step count for the “daily steps goal”: In this interaction, the “daily steps goal,” which is the target for the pedometer (from the default setting of 5,000 steps), will be set to 10,000 steps (or the value can be increased/decreased).
Brief description of how to access the setting:
- Start screen (display: time, date, steps, heart rate, remaining battery)
- General settings (4 main menu items)
- Specific settings (9 sub-menu items → gear icon)
- “Steps” setting (steps icon or “footprint” symbol)
- Change “daily steps goal”
To make adjustments, the smartwatch must be operated using the side button or finger/swipe gestures. Typically, the display of the smartwatch is in sleep mode. Therefore, the start screen must be awakened, for example, with a “double-tap” (or “single-tap” / “raise-wrist” – depending on manual settings).
From the start screen, you can access additional apps, settings, or notifications. To access the general settings menu, swipe from left to right on the display while on the start screen. This will display 4 main menu items (display brightness, flashlight, vibration on/off, specific settings). From there, select the specific settings (gear icon). The specific settings are further divided into 9 additional sub-menu items (i.e., further adjustment options) in a list. Since the display is small, these menus are spread across multiple “pages.” By swiping down, which corresponds to scrolling (scroll bar on the right), you can reach the second page or additional menu items. On page 2, you will find the “Steps” setting (steps icon).
In the steps setting, the daily goal (“daily steps goal”) can be adjusted, changing the default of 5,000 steps (or a manual value). The change can be made using the “+” and “-” buttons (multiple taps) in the “Steps” setting in increments of 1,000 steps.
Once this change is made, the new daily goal of 10,000 steps will be displayed in the pedometer app. The newly set numerical value is automatically saved.
The daily goal is represented both in text (numerical value) and graphically (progress in a bar chart, arc) in the steps app: The daily goal is considered achieved when the number of steps taken is greater than or equal to 10,000 steps (daily goal). The graphical bar will be filled in color according to the number of steps taken, thus indicating the current progress. When the graphical bar (in gray) is completely filled with blue, the user has reached the set daily goal.
On the start screen of the PineTime (InfiniTime), the current time is prominently displayed in the center. Below it, the date is shown. In the upper right corner of the screen, the battery status is visible. In the lower left corner, the heart rate is displayed. In the lower right corner, the number of steps taken so far that day is shown, but not the daily goal. To view the daily goal and progress bar, the corresponding app must be accessed through additional finger gestures.
Use of the Pedometer / Daily Goal: The pedometer can be useful for health tracking. It provides the user with information about how many steps have been taken each day. The use of the pedometer is associated with the goal of increasing physical activity, which can lead to an improvement in health status, especially if the recommended 10,000 steps per day, as suggested by some health experts, are achieved.
