Pine Time Dev

Product Description

The PineTime is an open-source smartwatch designed for everyday use and health tracking in its “sealed” version. The smartwatch is delivered with a corresponding USB charging dock (see Fig. 1).

Features include a digital clock display, date display, heart rate monitor, step counter, stopwatch, alarm, navigation, motion sensor, simple mini-games, and the ability to pair the smartwatch with a smartphone or computer via Bluetooth.

The touch-sensitive IPS display measures 240×240 pixels and can be controlled with finger taps and swipe gestures. There is a power button located on the side of the device. Additionally, the device can trigger vibration alerts for notifications. It is waterproof up to 1 meter and has a replaceable strap.

The PineTime comes with the InfiniTime firmware pre-installed, but it can theoretically run any other compatible firmware, such as WaspOS.

The PineTime is available in two versions:

  • Sealed version for users
  • Unsealed version for developers

Various “companion apps” are available for the PineTime, allowing it to connect via Bluetooth/BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). Companion applications can be found for both desktop computers and smartphones and can be downloaded from the internet.

Instructions can be found on the product website at Pine64.org or on the Pine64 Wiki Page (wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PineTime).

For Linux, there is software called “Siglo” that can be used to update the firmware via BLE, and for Android, the app “Gadgetbridge” allows users to view health tracking statistics from the PineTime.
